Stay safe with electrical items

To help keep you and your household safe:

• Check plugs regularly and make sure they have the correct fuse.
• Always use a qualified electrician for electrical work. Look for one registered with NICEIC or a similar approved scheme.
• Stop using electrical items if the cable or wiring is damaged.
• Avoid overloading sockets with too many plugs or extension leads.
• Do not use cracked or damaged plugs, sockets or switches.
• Never touch plugs, sockets or switches with wet hands.
• Do not install electrical sockets in bathrooms unless they are specially designed for this purpose.
• Only use properly installed shaver sockets in bathrooms.

Electrical faults can cause fires and electric shocks. If you notice damaged wiring, burning smells, sparking sockets or any other electrical safety concerns in your council home, please report them to us as soon as possible.
