Thinking about leaving?

Leaving an abusive relationship can be one of the most difficult and highest-risk times. Planning ahead may help keep you and your children safer.

  • Talk to someone you trust – a friend, family member, or a professional support service.
  • Plan your exit carefully – leaving suddenly can increase risk. If possible, make arrangements in advance.
  • Find a safe place – stay with family or friends if it’s safe.
  • Take essential items – clothes, toiletries, medication, passport, bank cards, phone.
  • Get legal advice before giving up your home or tenancy.
