There are schemes which can help you save money on your energy bills. The energy regulator Ofgem provides information about support you can get if you have a low income or you are over 67 years old. Visit the Ofgem site to see if you can get help from government schemes like the Warm Home Discount, the Cold Weather Payment and the Winter Fuel Payment, or from grants and charities.

The AskBill website has a lot of advice and information about how to manage your energy bills, how to talk to energy companies if you fall behind on your bills, with links to each of the big energy companies support for people on benefits and for people who are disabled or over the pension age.

Energy efficiency – help for your home

We want to help residents in Tendring save energy and money.
Making your home more energy efficient can also help fight climate change and keep your home warmer.

What we do

We help by:

• Referring people to home insulation grants
• Helping bring more grant money into Tendring
• Supporting the goal to reach net zero carbon by 2030

Want to make your home more efficient?

You could get help with:

• Cavity wall insulation
• Loft insulation
• External wall insulation
• Energy-efficient boilers
• And more!

Start by asking your energy provider about any deals.
You may also be able to get help through special schemes.

Energy company obligation (ECO) & GBIS

Essex County Council offers two schemes to help low-income and vulnerable residents:

• ECO4 Flex
• Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)

You could get:

• Solar panels
• Heat pumps
• Insulation
• Boiler upgrades
• Low-energy lighting

These are available to homeowners and tenants (with landlord permission).

Who can apply?

You must live in Essex and be:

• A homeowner, tenant, or landlord
• In a home with an EPC rating between D and G
• On a household income below £31,000
• Or have a health condition affected by cold
• Or be identified as vulnerable by Essex County Council

Landlords may need to help with costs.
Not all homes will qualify—each case is looked at individually.

What happens next?

• A Heat Essex advisor will call you from 01206 326808
• They’ll ask questions to check if you qualify
• If you do, your details will be shared with a trusted contractor (with your permission)
• The contractor will contact you to arrange a home survey
• After the survey, they’ll explain what work can be done and what paperwork is needed

🚫 You will not be cold-called by doorstep contractors.
