We know pets are part of the family! Here’s what you need to know about keeping pets in your council home.

If You live in a house, bungalow or ground floor flat

You can keep:

• One dog or
• One cat or
• One of each

In 2025 our housing service won a Silver RSPCA Pawprint award in recognition of our pet policy and procedures.

If you live in a flat or maisonette

You must ask for permission before getting any pets.

Pets that are not allowed

You cannot keep any animals that:

• Cause nuisance (trouble or mess)
• Cause distress to other residents
• Live in shared areas like hallways or gardens

To ask for permission, please:
