Is the payment I am making enough?

You must always have money in your rent account. This means your account should not go below zero.

If you get Housing Benefit (HB) or Universal Credit (UC), this helps pay your rent. But sometimes it doesn’t cover all of it. You might need to pay the rest yourself.

If you don’t pay enough, your account will go down and you could owe money (this is called arrears).

Even if you get HB or UC, you still need to check your account and make extra payments if needed.

If your wages or benefits change, the amount of help you get might go up or down. You’ll need to change how much you pay to make sure your rent is still covered.
