How should I pay my rent to ensure that I am in advance?

Your tenancy agreement says you need to pay your rent before it’s due – this is called paying in advance.

You can choose how often you pay (like every week or every month), but each time you pay, your account should have enough money to cover the rent until your next payment.

For example:

  • If your rent is £400 a month, you should pay £400 each time.
  • Some months have 4 weeks, and some have 5 weeks.
  • In a 4-week month, you might pay a bit more than needed.
  • In a 5-week month, you might not pay enough.

So it’s important to keep your rent account in credit – that means having enough money in it all year round.
