Gary Guiver is a Corporate Director at Tendring District Council with responsibility for Planning,Careline, the Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community and a growing portfolio of corporate projects. He joined Tendring in 2002 as an apprentice and has worked his way up through the organisation over more than 20-years with training, support and sponsorship from the Council.

Gary’s professional background with the Council is as a Planning Officer and he was sponsored by the Council to complete his professional qualifications and become a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) which he achieved in 2005, when he was also named the Council’s Student of the Year.  

Since then he has taken on a variety of leadership roles both in Planning and, in recent years, on a corporate basis as part of the Council’s Management Team. Gary was sponsored by the Council to undertake a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) which he completed in 2015.  

Gary is perhaps best known locally for his work on Local Plans for Tendring and North Essex; dealing with major planning applications and appeals; and working across authority boundaries to help bring forward the Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community – which will be one of the largest new developments in the country.

Gary has lived in Tendring all his life, growing up and going to school in Clacton and is passionate about the district, community engagement and getting the best possible outcome for Tendring residents as we move towards Devolution and Local
