We are here to help whether you are sleeping rough, sofa surfing or facing eviction – please reach out. The earlier you contact us the more we can do to help.
Log in to Housing Jigsaw and fill out the homelessness application.
📞We’ll then contact you and may ask you more questions to understand your situation.
📂We’ll ask you for some documents, such as:
· Passport or birth certificate
· Proof of homelessness
· Proof if you’re pregnant or have health problems
· Bank statements, payslips, or benefit letters
📅Appointment - We’ll arrange an assessment with a Housing Solutions Officer – either by phone or face to face.
✅If you are homeless, or threatened with homelessness in the next 8 weeks:
· We will make enquiries and assess your situation
· We’ll give you a Personal Housing Plan →This plan shows steps to help you stay in your home or find somewhere new to live.
If you don’t have a local connection to Tendring, we may refer your case to a council where you do — unless you are at risk of violence or abuse in that area.
· We’ll do everything we can to help you stay in your home or find somewhere to live. However, we don’t always have a duty to provide emergency accommodation or a council property.
· There is a big shortage of council housing in Tendring. Homes are offered through our Housing Register, and right now more than 2,000 households are waiting.
· Visit Shelter’s website for clear advice on what councils can do to help if you’re homeless or about to lose your home.
· You can also check our Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
Please help us improve our website by giving us feedback you'd like to on this page. If you'd like to remain anonymous you can omit your name and email. Thanks, Tendring District Council.
