General Questions

When will the register reopen?

To allow the Allocations Team the time to apply the recent changes to the Housing Allocations Policy the Housing Register was closed to new applicants. This allowed the team to undertake the following.

- Assess all those who have applied up to December 2025

- Test the changes to the system to ensure it meets policy.

- Apply the changes to system to all those currently on the housing register.

We are currently at the testing phase, which means we unable to give a confirmation on when the register will reopen.

What do I do if I want to apply or I am working with someone who wants to apply?

As the Team are unable to give a firm estimate on when the register will be open. We are asking those who wish to apply to register their interest by emailing housingallocations@tendringdc.gov.uk or by sending a letter to

Housing Allocations
Council Offices
88-90 Pier Avenue
Clacton-On-Sea
Essex
CO15 4UN

We will then contact those who have registered an interest when the register reopens to new applicants.

What do I do if I am facing homelessness/Housing Emergency?

If you are facing Homelessness, then you will need to approach our Housing Solutions Team and make an application via https://tendring.housingjigsaw.co.uk and selecting the “Register as homeless” option. They will consider the information you have submitted and advise you accordingly.

Due to the high demand for Council Housing, it is unlikely that approaching the Housing Solutions Team will result in being offered a council house.

They have been unsuccessfully trying to contact Housing Allocations Team

Due to the demand this change has placed on the team, there will be a significant delay in any responses. The team aims to respond to any enquiry within 10 working days.

If they wish to contact us, they will need to either put it in writing via email or post. Conversely, if the person is calling the team, we ask them to leave a voicemail. To ensure the enquiry is dealt with. The Allocations Team ask that the person outlines.

- Who you are.

- Why you are contacting the team.

- The best way to contact them.

If it is a Housing emergency that may result in homelessness they will need to speak with Housing Options.

If they are a Tenant of Tendring District Council and they have urgent requirement for repairs they will need to speak to Tendring District Council’s Housing Repairs Team.
