Covid 19 Update

Disabled Facilities Grants

Communication should be made through e-mail, telephone or letter as staff will be unable to attend visitors in the reception area.  All visits are dependent on the availability of staff and confirmation that household members are not self-isolating, exhibiting any symptoms of Coronavirus and wish for the visit to go ahead.  All of which is liable to change depending on the latest advise from Westminster

The department have put in place a comprehensive risk assessment and have started visiting new cases in date order where the household are not shielding. We are able to visit households virtually if you have the facilities to do this with us and this will be discussed by your case officer. If you cannot do with us over a virtual connection and you or anyone in your household is shielding the guidance is due to be reviewed at the end of July and we will start visiting households when we can as long as you are happy for us to visit you.

If you are still waiting for us to start your case be assured we are working through them and will be in contact soon if you have not already heard from us.

The private sector housing team provide a range of services for people living in privately owned or privately rented homes within the Tendring district.

We deal with issues such as illegal eviction, energy efficiency measures, grants, houses in multiple occupation and empty homes.  We also have a role in liaising with Essex County Council over unauthorised gypsy encampments.

Our Private Sector Housing Enforcement Policy explains how we will carry out our enforcement role and what business and residents can expect from us and the fees document tells you how much we charge for any notices we have to issue.

Useful documents

If you are renting your home from a private landlord, the leaflet called "Assured and Assured Shorthold Tenancies - A guide for tenants" may be of assistance. For information on lodging, please see "Renting Rooms in Someone's Home: A Guide for People Renting from Resident Landlords".  These leaflets explain the most important features of tenants' rights and responsibilities but they are only a general guide and have been taken from the Communities and Local Government Website.
