The deadline for nominating brilliant young people for a 2024 Tendring Youth Awards has been extended – but it is people’s last chance to submit entries.

The awards celebrate amazing accomplishments by young people who live, study or work in Tendring, across a wide range of categories; as well as adults who support them.

Extra time has been allowed for nominations to the eighth awards ceremony, with people now able to nominate up until 9am on Tuesday, 7 May, ahead of the gala awards evening taking place in July.

Karen O’Connor, Chairwoman of the Tendring Youth Awards, urged people to make their nominations now.

“Though we have already had some brilliant nominations, we don’t want anyone to miss out,” Karen said.

“We can only consider nominations put forward, so don’t delay and submit incredible young people you know now. You can enter as many people as you like, across all of the categories.

“It is a lovely way to recognise the accomplishments of young people, giving them the recognition they deserve.”

There are 11 categories you can nominate into, including the newly introduced for 2024 Young Life Saver Award, to recognise young people who have either directly saved a life, or who have taught and shared skills to train others to do so.

Other categories include Community Improvement and Environmental Initiative – both of which come with a bursary for the winner – Learning and Outstanding Achievement awards, and the Unsung Hero award for adults who support young people.

Individuals or groups of young people, such as youth organisations, can be nominated; while the various categories recognise academic achievement, inspirational caring, work in the community and efforts to help the environment, among others.

A panel of judges assess the nominations after the deadline closes and compile a shortlist of finalists, who will be invited to the glitzy presentation evening at Clacton’s Princes Theatre.

Harwich Haven Authority are for the fifth year headline sponsors of the Tendring Youth Awards; with the awards also supported by Tendring District Council and Essex County Council.

Other sponsors are the Princes Theatre, Actual Radio, Halterman Carless, Aquinas Provisions Ltd, Latimer by Clarion Housing Group and TimeLine Auctions.
