Residents across the Tendring district can meet face-to-face with employers and skill providers at this annual event later this month.
The Tendring Jobs and Skills Fair returns to the Princes Theatre at Clacton Town Hall from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Thursday, 26 September, providing the opportunity to find new vacancies and try fun activities that demonstrate skills for jobs in that industry, such as bricklaying and vehicle maintenance.
There’s something for everyone as 52 organisations will be exhibiting – with more to be confirmed – from a wide range of industries, including health, environment, military, beauty, leisure, logistics, retail, trades, public sector, charity, and sustainable energy.
Organised by Tendring District Council (TDC) in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (Jobcentre Plus), the skills fair forms part of the Tendring4Growth Business Fortnight; with the aim to help local residents into employment, find a new career, or take up learning new skills.
Lee Heley, TDC Corporate Director for Place and Economy, encouraged anyone looking for a new career or skill to attend.
“There are hundreds of jobs on offer, and this event is a great way to find a role that suits you,” Mr Heley said.
“Besides the benefits of being able to discuss vacancies directly with employers or skills providers, there are also some fantastic activities that let you try out different skills to see if they are something that you would enjoy.
“Through working closely with our partners at the Department for Work and Pensions, we hope to improve the quality of life of our residents by raising aspirations and creating opportunities, which is a high-level priority featured in the Council’s Corporate Plan for the next four years.”
Eric Payne, the Customer Service Leader for Tendring Jobcentre Plus, added: “The Tendring Skills Fair is the perfect opportunity for local residents to learn about what work is available across a wide range of sectors; benefiting job seekers, those wanting to develop their skills, or seeking alternative careers.”
Exhibitors at the event include Avon; the Armed Forces; Barclays Bank; Brightlingsea Harbour; Colchester Institute; DWP; Essex Painting and Decorating Services; Essex Police; Military Preparation College; Rose Builders; Stansted Airport; The Range; and the NHS, as well as Tendring District Council.
Activities include the ‘Pit Stop Challenge’ vehicle maintenance from NOVA Training; virtual reality skills training from RWE Renewables; brick laying from Rose Builders; exploring a HGV vehicle from RSM Driver Training; and learning about a range of Army vehicles which will be parked outside.
Residents from Clacton and Jaywick Sands can also chat with the team at Essex Peddle Power to discuss eligibility for a free bike that could help with commuting to work or skills training.
