Voters in Tendring are being asked for their thoughts on proposed changes to polling places in the district.
Tendring District Council (TDC) is conducting its Polling Places Review, looking at areas within which a polling station must be placed to ensure equal access to voting.
Currently there are 77 different neighbourhoods or parishes in Tendring each with their own Polling Place, and views were sought from the public in phase one of the review as to their effectiveness.
Following the phase one consultation, the majority of Polling Station venues are proposed to remain unchanged.
However, some areas are proposed to be merged into others to align with new division boundaries for Essex County Council elections – with others split to reflect the local geography, such as a major road cutting through the area.
In some areas views are also being sought on potential polling station venues, to tackle known accessibility issues at existing buildings.
Keith Simmons, Head of Democratic Services and Elections at TDC, encouraged people to view the phase two proposals and have their say before the consultation ends on Friday, 1 November 2024.
“We received some really useful feedback during phase one of our review, which has helped to shape the proposals we are now setting out,” Mr Simmons said.
“Getting this right is so important so that everyone who is eligible to vote can do so – so I would urge everyone to take the time to review the proposals and tell us their thoughts.”
The proposals can be seen on the council’s website at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/content/polling-arrangements-review and views on them can be shared via email to elections@tendringdc.gov.uk or in writing to Electoral Services, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, CO15 1SE.
