CCTV Code of Practice

Body Worn Camera Policy

The Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system within Tendring comprises of cameras located in Clacton, Gt. Clacton, and Jaywick Sands all linked to the CCTV control centre.

The authority also has a number of Rapid Deployment Cameras that can be installed to monitor areas where there are specific incidents of antisocial behaviour, for instance fly-tipping, littering or dog fouling.

A telephone line links the control centre directly to Clacton Police Station so the police can be alerted quickly to potential trouble or they can request the cameras be directed to a certain area. Additionally there is a slave incident monitor to allow the police to track what is happening within Clacton Town Centre. However, movement of cameras and recording of images remains within the Tendring CCTV control centre at all times.

Release of recorded images is strictly controlled and only occurs in full compliance with all relevant legislation. Details of this can be obtained from the CCTV control centre or by looking at the CCTV Code of Practice (see link).

The CCTV Code of Practice was adopted by Tendring District Council in April 2021 and the Body Worn Camera Policy adopted in January 2022.

The CCTV control centre can be contacted on 01255 423 360.
