To process claims for Housing Benefit, Discretionary Housing Payments and Local Council Tax Support.

Article 6 Lawfulness of processing (Section 1, (c))

Processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject.

What data do we collect about you

Personal details as required.  These may include:

• Name
• Address (Current and previous)
• Email address (optional)
• Telephone number (optional)
• Family details, including age, marital status, earnings, benefits and other income, e.g. pensions
• Financial details
• Name and address of your Landlord (if applicable)

We use personal data to test our systems to verify functionality before transitioning to full use. All live test data is protected to the same standard as our live data and operational systems to comply with Data Protection legislation.

How long do we collect your personal data

In accordance with the Council’s Corporate Retention Schedule.

Who we share your data with

Relevant information is shared with internal departments where applicable.

We may also share information about you with third parties where permitted or required to do so by law. This may include landlords, other local authorities and government departments carrying out their public tasks, such as a Magistrates Court, Essex County Council, Her Majesty’s Revenues and Customs (HMRC), Department for Work and Pensions, the Police in carrying out criminal investigations, and data matching via the District and National Fraud Initiatives. We will also share your data with agencies working on our behalf, such as the council's Collection Agents.

Individuals themselves (Data Subjects), landlords, Department of Works and Pensions, HMRC.
