Repairs to a key road in Jaywick Sands will take place after Tendring District Council (TDC) leaders agreed to take emergency action.
TDC’s Cabinet confirmed on Friday they would use government funding to fix potholes in the unadopted area of Brooklands.
Councillor Mark Stephenson, Leader of TDC, said: “Although we cannot commit to adopting the road, we know how vital it is for residents.
“Undertaking the repairs is the right and proper thing to do when we have funding for the regeneration of Jaywick Sands available.
“Above all, this is a matter of resident safety. We want to ensure nobody gets hurt and that buses and cars can be driven on the street without risking significant damage.
“We will now be working to ensure repairs are completed as soon as possible.”
Work to Brooklands has been added to the scope of the Jaywick Sands Open Spaces project which forms part of TDC’s Community Regeneration Partnership with the government.
Residents confirmed the road was their highest priority for improvements in the area.
A decision on the other schemes to be taken forward as part of this project will be made in the coming weeks – and could include additional improvements to Brooklands to ensure the road stays in good condition for a longer period.
Councillor Ivan Henderson, TDC Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Regeneration & Tourism said: “We are committed to a series of improvements in Jaywick Sands which have been influenced by thorough community engagement.
“We now need to decide which proposals will be viable and can be taken forward.”
Cabinet agreed that additional funding for this project could be reallocated from a proposal for a walking and cycling route at Tudor Fields which has been less popular with residents.
