Residents are being asked to have their say on how local heritage is protected in five villages across Tendring.

Tendring District Council (TDC) has today (Monday, 27 January) launched a public consultation on five Conservation Area Appraisals.

The five areas under review are Bradfield, Ramsey, Ardleigh, Great Holland, and Tendring village.

The consultation is part of the council's ongoing commitment to preserving the unique heritage of the district, as outlined in the Heritage Strategy adopted in 2020.

These Conservation Area Appraisals detail the special characteristics that make these areas unique and propose management strategies to protect and enhance their heritage.

The appraisals will assist planning officers, residents, and developers in understanding the significance of these areas and guide future development.

Andy Baker, TDC Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, urged residents from both the local areas and across Tendring to review the draft appraisals and share their feedback.

"Conservation Area Appraisals help us safeguard the beautiful and historic sites in our district for future generations," said Councillor Baker.

"We highly value the opinions of local residents on these appraisals and strongly encourage you to participate in this consultation.

“By taking part residents are shaping the future of their own communities, which will help them to take even greater pride in where they live.”

The six-week consultation period will run until 5pm on Monday, 10 March.

Residents are encouraged to consider what makes their area unique, what threats it faces and to suggest what boundaries would best suit the Conservation Area.

In addition to the online consultation, TDC will host public exhibition events in each of the areas, providing an opportunity for residents to learn more and share their views.

These events will take place from 3pm to 7pm (except Tendring Village) on the following dates:

• Great Holland Village Hall, Monday 3 February

• Tendring Village Hall, Monday 10 February (2.30pm to 6.30pm)

• Ardleigh Village Hall, Tuesday 18 February

• Ramsey War Memorial Hall, Thursday 20 February

• Bradfield Village Hall, Monday 24 February

Comments can be submitted in writing to the Tendring District Council Planning Policy Team, Planning Department, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex CO15 1SE, or via email at planning.policy@tendringdc.gov.uk.
