The Role:

This is an opportunity for a confident, highly motivated and skilled person to work in a high performing department with great team morale and friendly, helpful, and supportive colleagues.

This is an exciting role within the Housing Solutions team where you will play your part in supporting the local community and promoting a positive impact. Supporting people who are in critical need of help when faced with difficult housing circumstances such as the threat of homelessness. Prevention and early intervention will be at the heart of this approach so that we can reduce the numbers of people who are facing a housing crisis.

Working within a busy team the post holder will build a good rapport with residents and landlords, work reactively and proactively with people at risk of homelessness in a way that successfully meets their needs.

To provide effective support to clients to either prevent homelessness, improve their housing situation, or to access and sustain a range of housing options will be a key aspect of this role to ensure the Council’s ambitions are delivered.

You will engage with other Council departments, health professionals, registered providers, voluntary organisations and other agencies to address wider support needs.

Please note that this is a fixed term contract / secondment opportunity until March 2028
The experience you will bring:
  • Drive and commitment to preventing homelessness in a range of situations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be able to organise your own workload, work to deadlines and use your own initiative when making decisions
  • Good recording keeping and statistical skills
  • The ability to travel around the district independently
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Some knowledge of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017 and the Council’s Allocations Policy along with previous experience housing related issues would be beneficial but not essential.
