Victoria Street Social Homes

New social housing is set to be built on disused land in Victoria Street, transforming two derelict sites.

Tendring District Council has received planning permission to build eight new apartments, which will be let at social rent, on the site of 20 Victoria Street in Dovercourt.

The designs for the new homes have been inspired by the former Victoria Hotel pub.

Associated parking for residents will also be introduced on another empty site across the road.

The plans have been shaped following extensive public engagement and consultation, with key feedback highlighting support for refining proposals to fit the local historic setting, positive reactions to adding parking on the eastern site to ease local parking pressure, and general approval of improving the appearance of two long-vacant sites.

Demolition of the former 20 Victoria Street building was complete by SRC Group, on behalf of TDC, in April 2026.
