Harassment and Illegal Eviction

🚫 Harassment & Illegal Eviction – Know Your Rights

If you rent your home, you have legal rights. No one should try to force you out or make your life difficult.

⚠️ What Is Harassment?

Harassment is when a landlord or someone else tries to make you leave your home by doing things like:

  • Cutting off your water, gas, or electricity
  • Threatening you
  • Making you sign something that takes away your rights
  • Touching or moving your belongings
  • Moving into part of your home without permission

❌ What Is Illegal Eviction?

Illegal eviction is when someone forces you out of your home without following the law. This can include:

  • Physically throwing you out
  • Changing the locks
  • Stopping you from getting into your home

✅ What Is Lawful Eviction?

A landlord can evict you, but only by following the correct legal process. This depends on your tenancy type and your rights.

🆘 What Should You Do?

If you’re being harassed or illegally evicted:

  1. Get advice from:

  2. Keep a diary of what happens:
    • Dates and times of incidents

    • Any witnesses (including police)
    • Any medical treatment you receive
  3. Tell the police right away
    • Write down the name and number of the officer you speak to
    • If it happens at night or on the weekend, report it to the Council the next working day
