Tendring District Council (TDC) is proudly honouring the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community as part of this year’s Armed Forces Week.
Armed Forces Week (23-29 June) is a national celebration recognising the men and women who serve, have served, and support the United Kingdom in uniform.
The Council will be flying the Armed Forces Day flag at Clacton Town Hall on Saturday (28 June), with a ceremonial flag raising led by TDC Chairman Bill Davidson.
“It will be a privilege to raise the flag on behalf of the people of Tendring,” said Councillor Davidson.
“This is more than a ceremony – it’s a heartfelt thank you to those who serve and have served.
“We are proud to stand with our Armed Forces community - and this week is a time to reflect on the immense contributions and sacrifices made by those who protect the UK and its interests, both at home and abroad.”
Last year, the Council was awarded the prestigious Gold Award in the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme, recognising its outstanding support for veterans, reservists, and military families.
This includes recruitment practices, workplace support, and community engagement.
Councillor Dan Casey, who is TDC’s Armed Forces Champion and President of the Clacton branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL), added: “Tendring has a proud and enduring relationship with the Armed Forces.
“From our veterans and reservists to cadets and service families, we honour their service not just this week, but all year round.
“The Gold Award is a reflection of our values – and we will continue to lead the way in supporting those who serve.”
Among the Council’s ongoing initiatives is the much-loved Veterans’ Tea Dance, held annually at Clacton’s Princes Theatre.
Organised in partnership with Clacton RBL, the event brings together ex-service personnel and their guests for an afternoon of music, dancing, and shared memories – a poignant reminder of the community spirit that binds generations of service.
This year’s Clacton Airshow on August 21 and 22 will also feature a special tribute to the Armed Forces with a flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, offering a stirring salute to the bravery and legacy of those who defended the skies during wartime.
As part of Armed Forces Week, residents are encouraged to take part in the national #SaluteOurForces campaign by sharing photos and messages of support on social media throughout the week.
TDC reaffirmed its pledge to the Armed Forces Covenant in 2022, ensuring that no member of the military community faces disadvantage in accessing services, employment, or support.
