Walton-on-the-Naze’s Lifestyles leisure centre is set to make a splash thanks to a £28,000 revamp to its changing rooms this winter.
Tendring District Council (TDC) is investing in a new wetside changing village floor and cosmetic enhancements to create a cleaner, brighter, and more modern space for customers.
The works are set to begin on Tuesday, 16 December – meaning the pool will be closed over the quieter Christmas period – and are scheduled to finish on Monday, 5 January 2026, ready for people to kick-start their New Year fitness resolutions with improved facilities.
To complete the project safely, the swimming pool will be closed during this period, but the gym will remain open so members can continue their fitness routines without interruption.
To make sure customers can still enjoy swimming, members will be able to use facilities at Clacton Leisure Centre and Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles at no extra cost during the closure.
This even includes those on single-site memberships and swim-only packages.
Councillor Mick Barry, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, said the upgrade would be welcomed by swimmers and families who use the popular facility.
“We’re really excited about this upgrade because it’s going to make a big difference for everyone who uses Walton-on-the-Naze Lifestyles,” he said.
“This upgrade is part of our drive to improve leisure facilities across the district, ensuring residents have access to high-quality spaces that support healthy, active lifestyles.
“Although the pool will be closed for a short time, these improvements will mean a cleaner, brighter changing area that makes every visit more enjoyable.
“Thank you to everyone for your patience while we make these changes happen.”
All fitness classes at Walton will be cancelled during the upgrade, and Swim School lessons will pause from 16 December and resume on 5 January.
