Six more car parks in Tendring pick up national safety awards

Six more car parks across Tendring have now received the prestigious Park Mark award from the British Parking Association (BPA).

The Park Mark, awarded by the British Parking Association as part of the Safer Parking Scheme, recognises car parks that meet high standards of management, maintenance, lighting and security.

Sites recognised in the second phase of inspections for 2025 include Alton Road, Carnarvon Road, Wellesley Road and the Martello Coach and Car Park in Clacton, Hazlemere in Holland-on-Sea, and Victoria Place in Brightlingsea.

These awards follow a successful first round earlier in the year, which saw 11 car parks across the district — including Jaywick Beach, Ardleigh, Kiln Lane in Manningtree, and sites in Harwich, Walton, Clacton and Brightlingsea — receive the same recognition.

Councillor Mick Barry, Tendring District Council’s Cabinet Member responsible for car parks, said: “This second wave of Park Mark awards is a real vote of confidence in the continued hard work and dedication of our Parking Services team.

“It’s fantastic to see even more of our car parks recognised for their safety, cleanliness and overall quality – giving both residents and visitors peace of mind when they park in Tendring.

“We know parking is an important issue for our residents, which is why we continue to fight to protect free parking on our seafronts and proudly fund the Householder Parking Permit – a scheme that’s almost unique to Tendring.

“It gives residents free parking after 11am for most of the year, and we’ve been proud to keeping it running.

“I hope people make the most of the permit – it’s a real benefit that helps residents support local businesses, while also enjoying everything our beautiful district has to offer.”

The Householder Parking Permit offers free parking after 11am at most council-run car parks (excluding July and August).
