Clacton residents are invited to come together in tribute to the fallen at this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade and service — which holds special significance as it marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War.

The commemorations will begin at 10.30am on Sunday, 9 November, with a parade setting off from Clacton Town Hall and making its way to the Memorial Garden on the seafront, where the service will take place at 11am.

Led by Reverend David Lower, the service will feature a bugle performance by Ellie Bould, a reading of the Gayatri Mantra by Dhirajlal Karia, and contributions from the newly appointed Clacton Royal British Legion Chairman, Richard Geddes.

The 295 Squadron Witham Air Cadets band will lead the parade of local Scouts, Guides and other uniformed organisations.

Tendring District Council Chairman Bill Davidson will take the salute outside the Town Hall before joining veterans and dignitaries at the memorial.

Councillor Davidson said: “Remembrance Sunday is a moment for quiet reflection and public unity.

“It’s a chance for us all to honour those who gave their lives in service and to show our gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today.

“This 80th anniversary is a powerful reminder of their service and sacrifice — and I encourage everyone to come along, stand with our veterans, and show that they are remembered.”

To support the safe running of the parade, temporary road closures will be in place around Clacton town centre, including The Grove, Alexander Road, Station Road, Pier Avenue (between the town square and Pier Gap), and parts of Marine Parade West and East near the seafront gardens.

Remembrance services will also be held in other towns and villages across the Tendring district.
