Released jointly with Essex County Council and the Dovercourt Town Centre High Street Accelerator Partnership
Residents and businesses can find out more about two regeneration schemes in Dovercourt at an event next month.
This follows work on the first phase of public realm improvements starting this week.
Essex County Council and Tendring District Council are jointly delivering the improvements.
Specialist highways contractor M Group Highways and civil engineering specialists Ryebridge have now been appointed.
A public drop-in information event is taking place at Harwich Library on 14 April between 3pm and 7pm. Attendees can view the plans and ask questions.
The latest phase of work will include upgrades between Dovercourt Railway Station and the seafront.
Works started this week on the Dovercourt High Street Accelerator Green Spaces scheme. This is run by a forum of local partners and supported by Tendring District Council.
Ryebridge have been appointed to carry out the works on the £500,000 scheme.
It will include improvements to:
• the area around the Queen Victoria statue
• the underpass linking the seafront and Mill Lane
• seafront pathways and more.
Certain paths on the cliffs of Dovercourt seafront will need to be temporarily closed over the next few weeks. Access to the promenade will always be available.
M Group Highways will deliver the complementary £2.39 million Dovercourt Public Realm Scheme.
This is due to start in the Spring. This will include new paving, planting and public space enhancements along the B1414 Kingsway. It will also include improvements outside of Dovercourt
Railway Station and Harwich Library.
The two projects are being coordinated to minimise disruption, including sharing traffic management.
Councillor Mark Platt, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport, said:
“Both schemes will make a huge difference in creating a more attractive and welcoming route along this key corridor.
“We will be working closely with M Group Highways to minimise disruption during construction. I would encourage residents and businesses to come along to the drop-in event next month to find out more about the two schemes and ask any questions they may have.”
Councillor Ivan Henderson, Tendring District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Regeneration & Tourism said: “To have both projects underway at the same time will be a huge boost for Dovercourt town centre.
“It is clear how they will complement one another and deliver real improvements. I am thankful for residents’ patience while work is ongoing.”
Dovercourt Town Centre High Street Accelerator Partnership Chairman Paul Milsom added: “I am excited Ryebridge have started on this exciting next phase of the High Street Accelerator project. It will be fantastic to have this work done in time for the busy summer season.”
Anthony Brown, Regional Director at M Group Highways, said: “M Group is proud to be working with Essex County Council to deliver the Dovercourt Public Realm Scheme. It follows on from several projects we’ve successfully delivered across Essex.
“By working closely with local suppliers, we’ll enhance Dovercourt’s public spaces, supporting the wider multimillion-pound regeneration programme by creating vibrant, inclusive areas that make a lasting positive impact for the community.”
Sean Scully, Ryebridge Managing Director, said: “We are thrilled to be undertaking this work on behalf of the partnership. It is an exciting opportunity to breathe new life into this much-loved family seaside resort, giving it a well-deserved makeover to ensure it remains a popular destination for many generations to come.”
The Dovercourt Capital Regeneration Programme also includes the recent £1.16 million refurbishment of Harwich Library, a new car park in Milton Road, and new council homes in Victoria Street where demolition work on the old site commenced last week.
