Residents, businesses and community groups are being invited to help shape the future of Clacton town centre by sharing their views on a new culture-led plan.

Tendring District Council has commissioned Clacton Thriving, a culture-led plan to improve the town centre over the coming years.

The document includes ideas for a host of potential projects including more street art, additional outdoor markets, beach parade events and is informed by public consultation.

People are being asked which ideas they would like to be prioritised if funding becomes available beyond developments which are already in progress.

Residents can have their say by completing the online survey here.

Ivan Henderson, TDC Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Regeneration and Tourism said: “This plan brings together expert assessments and the views of hundreds of residents from previous consultations creating an exciting vision and action plan for the town centre.

“This is an opportunity for residents, businesses and community groups to tell us which of the projects that have been identified they would like to see prioritised over the coming years if funding opportunities arise.”

Regeneration in Clacton is building momentum, with plans approved to transform Clacton Library, deliver new affordable homes and community spaces at Carnarvon Terrace, and redevelop the multi-storey car park as part of a new Civic Quarter.

In addition, a number of shopfront improvement grants have been given to businesses and more than 30 bus stops have been repaired and revitalised in a project led by Essex County Council.

Work to convert disused seafront buildings into a new space for a business, ideally in the creative or cultural sector, is also set to begin later this year.

Cllr Henderson added: “We are on the cusp of an exciting period of regeneration in Clacton.

“Feedback from residents can help to prioritise what might come next.”

The development of the plan has been funded through the Community Regeneration Partnership programme and complements the Love Clacton Vision, which will guide £20 million of Government investment for the town over the next ten years through the Pride in Place programme.

Pop-up stalls and targeted engagement sessions will also be taking place across the next eight weeks including on Clacton Town Square during Clacton Airshow.
