A much-loved community venue in Great Clacton is ready to welcome back local groups and families, following the completion of major repair works after two devastating fires.
Burrsville Public Hall, in Gorse Lane, has undergone extensive restoration after suffering serious fire damage in March 2024 and again in a second incident earlier this year.
Now, after months of careful reinstatement, the hall has reopened its doors.
The keys have now been handed back and the hall is open once again. The local pre-school has already moved back in and started up, with children and parents thrilled to be back.
It’s brought a great energy to the place and a welcome sense of normality well ahead of the September term.
Councillor Peter Kotz, Tendring District Council’s Cabinet Member for Assets, welcomed the news.
“This is a rewarding moment for the community and for the council,” he said.
“We know how important Burrsville Public Hall is to local residents – it’s more than just a building, it’s a hub for connection, learning and support.
“After the setbacks caused by the fires, we’re delighted to see it restored and ready to serve the community once again.
“We take great pride in our area and in delivering services that matter to people.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved in the restoration, and the community for their patience and resilience.”
The hall has been used by Burrsville Residents’ Association since April 1987, with a 21-year extension to the lease being signed in 2014.
The cause of the fire in March 2024 was recorded as undetermined.
