Households across Tendring are being urged to respond to letters that will be arriving soon as part of the annual voter information check.
The canvass helps Tendring’s Electoral Registration Officer keep its records accurate for all UK, Commonwealth and EU nationals, as well as 16 and 17-year-olds living in the district.
Letters are being sent to households to confirm ‘no changes’ or to update the details of those living at each home.
Residents are encouraged to reply promptly, particularly if they have recently moved or have teenagers who have just turned 16 or 17, to avoid further reminders.
Ian Davidson, Electoral Registration Officer for Tendring, said: “Checking your household’s details is quick and important.
“It helps protect your right to vote and ensures our records are up to date.
“Please take a moment to check the information in the letter for your home and respond as needed.
“We know that household details for 16 to 20-year-olds and for those over 70 years old are not as complete as for age groups in between.
“So, this is a special message to make sure those residents are remembered when responding.
“The easiest way to do this is online, where you’ll get instant confirmation.”
While online and text are the most efficient means for residents to confirm or update their details, households can still reply with information about their household by phone or by post.
With online or text options residents will receive an immediate confirmation of their response. Postal responses require residents to provide their own envelope and stamp.
