Residents, partners and stakeholders are invited to have their say on Tendring District Council’s new draft Housing Strategy, which sets out the council’s approach to housing over the next five years.
Approved for consultation by Cabinet at a meeting today (Friday, 26 September), the strategy outlines how the council will work to improve housing across the district — from supporting people at risk of homelessness to making better use of existing homes and helping residents live independently.
Councillor Andy Baker, Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, said: “This strategy is about making sure everyone in Tendring has access to a safe, secure and suitable home.
“It builds on the progress we’ve made over the past five years, but also recognises the challenges we face — including rising demand for affordable housing, the need to improve older homes, and the importance of supporting people to live well in their communities.
“It also reflects Tendring District Council’s wider vision: working with our partners to improve the quality of life for residents and create strong, healthy and resilient communities. We want to hear from residents and organisations to make sure the strategy reflects local needs and priorities.”
The draft strategy sets out four key priorities:
It also highlights recent achievements, such as investment in council housing, improvements to housing standards, and work with partners to support vulnerable residents.
The strategy will help guide the council’s housing work in the years ahead, including opportunities to work with other authorities as part of wider changes to local government in Essex.
