Families, tenants and residents packed into Rush Green Recreation Ground for a free community fun day bringing together entertainment, advice and local support.
The Tendring District Council (TDC) event, held on Wednesday (29 July), saw children enjoy a bouncy castle, soft play, face painting, live music, sports activities and mini Shetland ponies, while adults spoke with council teams and local organisations.
Peabody, Bill Clinic, Parents 1st, Essex Police and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service also attended, while residents spoke with TDC’s Tenant Involvement team about housing services and how they can have their say.
Mark Stephenson, Leader of TDC, said: “It was wonderful to see so many families, tenants and residents come together and enjoy the day.
“There was a real buzz, from children meeting the mini ponies and having their faces painted to residents chatting with staff and partner organisations in a relaxed setting.
“Events like this show that tenant involvement can be simple and welcoming — a chance to ask questions, share ideas and help shape services.
“As the largest provider of social housing in Tendring, with more than 3,000 council homes and 450 leasehold properties, we know how important it is that tenants have a real voice.
“A huge thank you goes to everyone who came along, and to the staff, volunteers and partner organisations who helped make it such a success.”
Tenant Panel chair Carol McDougall said: “There was a lovely atmosphere throughout the day, with tenants and families enjoying themselves while finding out more about the services available to them.
“The Tenant Panel helps make sure residents’ views are heard, and days like this show that getting involved can be friendly, practical and worthwhile.”
The Tenant Panel is made up of volunteers who work with TDC to help ensure housing services reflect tenants’ experiences. The council is keen to hear from more tenants, including younger residents, who want to help shape how the housing service is run.
