A trio of new community minibuses are set to hit the road across Clacton, Jaywick Sands and Holland-on-Sea thanks to a grant scheme.

Tendring Community Transport, Harwich Connexions and Clacton-based youth support charity UTurn4Support have successfully applied for a combined total of more than £180,000 from Tendring District Council (TDC).

The funding for the brand-new vehicles has been provided through the Community Regeneration Partnership, a wider £20million investment programme from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, being delivered by TDC.

The three minibuses will help local residents – including young people facing challenges – get to school, health appointments, and access vital support services.

Pauline Mann, CEO of Tendring Community Transport, said: “The new minibus will be a huge boost for us.

“It will replace one of our ageing vehicles which is now more than 12 years old and be much more reliable, spend more time on the road and help us continue to assist residents in getting where they want to go.”

Richard Colley, Chairman at Harwich Connexions, said: “We’re delighted to have secured this funding. Our services are incredibly busy and a chance to refresh the fleet will be a massive benefit for us.

“Our services already extend to Clacton, Holland, Jaywick Sands and beyond, so a new vehicle is incredibly welcome to support those routes.”

Tania Swanson, Director of UTurn4Support said: “Having reliable transport means we can offer young people greater access to activities, opportunities, and support that might otherwise be out of reach.

“It’s more than just a vehicle; it’s a gateway to new experiences, growth, and community connection.

“Lack of access to reliable, safe transportation is one of the biggest barriers young people face when trying to engage with opportunities in their community. This will help us ensure that, regardless of background or circumstance, anyone can take part in educational trips, youth programmes, training, volunteering, health, and social activities.”

UTurn4Support’s vehicle is likely to be ready for use by the end of the year, while the other groups hope to be in place in early 2026 due to the bespoke adaptations required for users.

Councillor Ivan Henderson, TDC Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “These new minibuses will undoubtedly improve the quality of life for our residents, helping people access vital services and get to places which offer skills, learning and training opportunities.

“This scheme will provide connection for people of all ages and I am excited to see the minibuses hit the road in the coming months – I am delighted we have helped three such fantastic groups.”

The Community Regeneration Partnership with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is part of a wider £20million investment programme – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to regenerate Clacton and Jaywick Sands and improve quality of life for local people.
