Eleven car parks across Tendring scoop national safety award — with more to come

Car parks across Tendring have again been recognised for their high standards, receiving the prestigious Park Mark award from the British Parking Association (BPA).

The awards, part of the Safer Parking Scheme, are given to facilities that demonstrate excellent management, effective surveillance, appropriate lighting, and a clean, safe environment for users.

This year’s award winners include Kiln Lane in Manningtree and Ardleigh Car Park for the first time, both having impressed assessors with their condition and upkeep.

The full list of Tendring District Council (TDC) car parks awarded in this round includes Jaywick Beach, Ipswich Road, Holland-on-Sea, The Quay, Harwich, Wellington Road, Harwich, Tower Street, Brightlingsea, Agate Road, Clacton, Elm Grove, Clacton, High Street, Walton-on-the-Naze, Church Road, Walton-on-the-Naze.

Nine of these sites have already passed both the Safer Parking and Park Access inspections, with the two new additions expected to follow shortly. The Park Access Award specifically recognises car parks that provide safe and accessible parking for disabled users.

Councillor Mick Barry, TDC's Cabinet Member for Car Parks, welcomed the news.

“It’s fantastic to see another 11 of our car parks achieving the Park Mark award — especially as we continue to grow and improve our offer with awards for Kiln Lane and Ardleigh.

“These awards are more than just plaques on the wall — they’re a sign to residents and visitors that our car parks are safe, clean, and well-managed.

“I’d like to thank our Parking Services team for their continued dedication. Their work helps make Tendring one of the best places in Essex to park with confidence.”

Further inspections are planned for later this year, with more car parks due to be assessed for awards in September and November.

As always, residents can also take advantage of the Householder Parking Permit, which offers free parking after 11am at most council-run car parks (excluding July and August).
