Veterans, civic leaders, and members of the public came together in Clacton on Saturday (14 June) to mark the 43rd anniversary of the end of the Falklands War.

The commemorative service, held at the Clacton War Memorial and jointly organised by the Clacton branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) and Tendring District Council (TDC), paid tribute to those who served and sacrificed during the 1982 conflict.

Led by the Rev David Lower, the poignant ceremony included the Last Post, prayers, the Falklands Epitaph, and the laying of wreaths by veterans, local dignitaries, and representatives of armed forces organisations.

Councillor Bill Davidson, Chairman of TDC, gave a reading during the service.

He said: “It was moving to see so many people come together to remember the courage and commitment of those who served in the Falklands

“Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we enjoy today.

“Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the service such a respectful and meaningful occasion.”

The annual event continues to be a significant moment of reflection for the Clacton community.

The war memorial, set in the town’s seafront gardens off Marine Parade West, provided a fitting backdrop for the solemn tribute.
