Clacton Town Hall will be glowing green this week as part of the Creating Hope Through Light campaign, running from 9 to 13 September.
A powerful initiative, Creating Hope Through Light is aimed at raising awareness around suicide prevention and encouraging open, honest conversations.
The campaign, led by Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System and Thurrock and Brentwood Mind, is part of the wider #LetsTalkAboutSuicide movement. It invites communities across Essex to light up landmarks in green, symbolising hope and solidarity with those affected by suicide.
Locally, Tendring District Council is proud to support the campaign by lighting up Clacton Town Hall, offering a visible reminder that help is available and that talking about mental health can save lives.
Councillor Gina Placey, Tendring District Council Cabinet Member for Partnerships, said: “Lighting up Clacton Town Hall is a heartfelt gesture to show that our community cares. Suicide affects far too many families, and we want to break the silence and stigma.
“This campaign reflects our commitment to working with partners to improve quality of life for everyone in Tendring. I urge everyone to take the free training at www.letstalkaboutsuicide.co.uk—it only takes 20 minutes and could make all the difference.”
Residents are encouraged to visit the illuminated landmarks, leave messages of empathy and reflection, and join the conversation online using #CreatingHopeThroughLightEssex. This week is not just about lighting buildings—it is about lighting the way forward.
Campaign resources are also available for those who wish to share personal messages or videos to support the cause. For more information, visit www.letstalkaboutsuicide.co.uk.
