Tendring District Council (TDC) marked Armed Forces Day with a flag-raising ceremony at Clacton Town Hall on Saturday (27 June), bringing together councillors, members of the Armed Forces community and residents in a show of appreciation for those who serve.

The Armed Forces Day flag was raised by Councillor Carlo Guglielmi, Vice Chairman of TDC, as part of the national Armed Forces Week campaign.

Councillor Carlo Guglielmi said: “It was a real honour to raise the flag on behalf of Tendring residents and to see people come together in Clacton to show their support.

“The ceremony is a simple but important way for us to recognise the dedication, service and sacrifice of those who serve our country.”

Councillor Dan Casey, TDC’s Armed Forces Champion and President of the Clacton branch of the Royal British Legion, added: “Tendring has a proud connection with the Armed Forces, and it is vital that support for veterans, reservists, cadets and service families is visible and meaningful.

“Events like this help ensure those who serve, or have served, know they are valued and supported here in our district.”

The event formed part of Armed Forces Week, a national initiative recognising the contribution of regulars, reservists, veterans and military families.

TDC continues to support the Armed Forces Covenant, ensuring members of the Armed Forces community are treated fairly and are not disadvantaged in accessing council services.
