Hundreds of residents are expected to stand alongside veterans and civic leaders as Clacton comes together to honour those who gave their lives in service to the nation.

The town’s annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations will begin at Clacton Town Hall on Sunday, 8 November, with the parade stepping off from The Grove at 10.30am towards the Memorial Garden on the seafront.

Led by new Parade Marshal Kevin Sawyer, the parade will include local Scouts, Guides and other organisations – with the band of the Essex Wing RAF Air Cadets at its head.

Tendring District Council (TDC) Chairman Ann Oxley will take the salute outside the Town Hall before joining veterans, dignitaries and Clacton Royal British Legion Chairman Richard Geddes at the memorial.

At 11am, the town will fall silent as wreaths are laid in tribute to the fallen. The service will be conducted by Reverend David Lower with bugler Ellie Bould sounding the Last Post. The Salvation Army Band will also play at the memorial.

“Remembrance Sunday is one of the most moving moments in our civic calendar, when generations stand side by side in gratitude and respect,” said Councillor Oxley.

“I hope residents will join us in paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and in showing our support for veterans and serving personnel today.”

Councillor Dan Casey, Clacton RBL President and TDC’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “Clacton always turns out in force for Remembrance Sunday, and that shared moment of silence sends a powerful message that their courage and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

“Our commitment to the Armed Forces community continues throughout the year, supporting veterans, reservists, cadets and service families across Tendring.”

To support the safe running of the parade, temporary road closures will be in place around Clacton town centre, including The Grove, Alexander Road, Station Road, Pier Avenue (between the town square and Pier Gap), and parts of Marine Parade West and East near the seafront gardens.

Remembrance services will also be held in other towns and villages across the Tendring district.

Manningtree’s Remembrance Sunday service, organised by Manningtree Town Council, will take place at the town’s War Memorial, in High Street, at 2.45pm, and is set to include a parade by cadets.
