Residents across Tendring are being encouraged to make sure they have the correct photo ID ready for polling day, as part of this week’s ‘Find it FrIDay’ reminder.
Anyone wishing to vote in person at the Essex County Council elections on Thursday, 7 May, must show an approved form of identification before they can receive a ballot paper.
Dubbed ‘Find it FrIDay’ voters are being urged to take time this Friday (24 April) to check they have an appropriate form of ID.
Voters who do not currently have an accepted form of photo ID can still apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC). Applications are open until 5pm on Tuesday, 28 April.
Ian Davidson, Deputy Returning Officer, called on voters to check they have an appropriate ID while there is still time to apply for a VAC.
“We want to ensure every eligible voter can take part on 7 May,” he said.
“It’s important that everyone planning to vote makes sure they have an acceptable form of photo ID ready for polling day,” he said.
“Taking a moment now to check your ID is valid and still a good likeness will help ensure you can receive your ballot paper without delay.
“If you don’t have an approved form of ID, there is still time to apply for the free Voter Authority Certificate.”
Accepted forms of ID include a UK passport or driving licence, a Blue Badge, an older or disabled person’s bus pass, a PASS accredited proof of age card, or a Defence Identity Card.
A full list of approved IDs is available at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/services/elections-and-voting.
Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate can be completed online. Paper forms are available from the Town Hall in Clacton on Sea, or can be requested by calling 01255 686575.
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday, 7 May.
