On Saturday afternoon our Beach Patrol team was involved in a multi-agency response after four people got into difficulty in the water near Palace Groyne, in Clacton.

Our lifeguards and wardens carried out the initial rescues and provided first aid before being joined by colleagues from the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, East of England Ambulance Service, Clacton Coastguard, Essex Police, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and Clacton RNLI.

We want to extend our thanks to everyone who was involved in the response. Our thoughts are with all those affected, and we wish the casualties a full recovery.

This was a difficult incident for our team, who worked incredibly hard in challenging circumstances. With Saturday marking World Drowning Prevention Day, it is a timely reminder for everyone to take care around the coast and follow water safety advice.

Please keep safe on the Essex Sunshine Coast by swimming in the area marked by the red-and-yellow flags when they are flying, as this shows Beach Patrol lifeguards are on duty in that area. Please also stay clear of coastal structures such as groynes, piers and breakwaters.
