Planning Service Enforcement Policy

Tendring District Council is pleased to announce the formal adoption of its updated Planning Service Enforcement Policy for both our Planning and Building Control teams, approved by the Planning Committee on 8 July 2025.  This is now in effect.  

This policy outlines how the Council will investigate and respond to breaches of planning and building control regulations across the district. It reflects our commitment to:

• Protecting the built and natural environment

• Ensuring fairness, transparency, and consistency

• Prioritising cases based on the level of harm

• Supporting sustainable development and community wellbeing

• A clearer framework for assessing and prioritising enforcement cases

• Updated procedures aligned with national planning guidance

• Enhanced service standards and communication protocols

• Stronger emphasis on proportionality and public interest
