On Thursday 13 August 2026 an election will be held for the Member of Parliament for Clacton Constituency.
The electorate number to be used for expenses will need to be that of the register in operation at that time. The register containing the elector numbers for subscribers has now been published.
Candidates wishing to stand for election are required to submit nomination papers to the Acting Returning Officer during the official nomination period before the election. The Notice of Election can be found here: Notice of Election

The period for receipt of nominations will commence at 10am on 14 July 2026. All prospective candidates who want to stand for election must formally submit their nomination by 4pm on Friday 17 July 2026.
Please note the nomination form and consent to nomination must be submitted by hand and cannot be submitted by post, fax, email or other electronic means. The Acting Returning Officer strongly recommends that Candidates and Agents refer to the Electoral Commission’s guidance before completing the nomination paperwork.
We are offering an appointment system between 10am and 3pm,from Tuesday 14 July 2026, when you can have an informal check prior to formal submission of your nomination papers.
Details of briefing for candidates and agents will be provided to them once their nomination has been submitted and declared valid by the Acting Returning Officer.
For those with additional needs to be able to vote independently, there are a number of things available to support you. These include magnifying glass, large versions of the ballot paper, tactile voting devices, low level polling booths and pen grips in every polling station as well as audio devices where requested.
