Hoarding Support and Referrals - Privacy Notice

The purpose for this processing

To provide support to residents within the district where necessary as identified by Council officers undertaking their routine visits.

To prevent hoarding behaviours reaching safeguarding levels by ensuring residents have access to all support available to them.

Legal basis for this processing

Article 6, 1. (e) - Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller (public task).

Article 9(2)(g) – Processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest, on the basis of Domestic Law which shall be proportionate to the aim pursued, respect the essence of the right to data protection and provide for suitable and specific measures to safeguard the fundamental rights and the interests of the data subject. Safeguarding individuals at risk and safeguarding of economic well-being of certain individuals.

  • Homeowner details
  • Organisations involved
  • NOK details
  • Health needs / Diagnosis
  • Any information relevant to the adult’s hoarding / situation
  • Religious or Philosophical Beliefs
  • Racial or Ethnic Origin

How long do we keep your personal data?

Information will be retained in accordance with the Council’s published data retention schedule and in any event no longer than is necessary.  All data beyond its retention will be destroyed securely.

These will include the following as appropriate:

  • Relevant internal officers and departments
  • Essex County Council
  • Essex Police
  • Essex Fire and Rescue Services
  • Colchester City Council
  • Colchester Borough Homes
  • Relevant trusted partners as required
  • General Practitioner
  • Social Service
  • Relevant support services as required
  • Other relevant mental health and social providers as required.
