Residents at Kate Daniels House in Weeley were treated to an afternoon of festive warmth and community spirit thanks to the generosity of an 11 year old, who took it upon himself to host a special Christmas hot chocolate event.

Jake Huntingford – the great grandson of one of the residents – spent weeks preparing for the occasion, even hand delivering printed tickets to every flat at the complex, which is run by Tendring District Council (TDC).

Dressed as Santa, he welcomed residents into the communal lounge on Monday (22 December) for an afternoon filled with hot chocolate, Christmas music and a selection of festive treats.

The event brought together a large number of residents for what staff described as a “lovely, uplifting afternoon”.

Laughter, conversation and carols filled the lounge as people came together to share in the seasonal spirit.

A highlight of the day was 93 year old George Smith being awarded a prize for his standout festive jumper, proudly emblazoned with the phrase ‘I am sexy and I snow it’.

Councillor Mark Stephenson, Leader of TDC, extended his thanks to Jake for his heart warming contribution and for helping make Christmas that little bit brighter for residents.

“Jake’s kindness truly made the residents’ Christmas,” he said.

“For someone so young to want to give something back in this way is incredibly special.

“His thoughtfulness, effort and enthusiasm created a really joyful afternoon and meant so much to everyone who came along.

“This is a wonderful example of intergenerational community spirit and the strong sense of family that exists within our sheltered schemes.

“We are proud of the services we provide to our residents, including the support offered through our sheltered housing – and we’re very grateful to Jake for bringing so much festive cheer to Kate Daniels House.”
