Statement following removal of willow tree in London Road, Clacton:

Councillor Mick Barry, Tendring District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Public Realm, said: “We share residents’ upset and frustration at the loss of the willow tree on land off London Road, Clacton.

“The tree had suffered extensive fire damage as a result of deliberate vandalism, and was found to be structurally unsafe during a professional inspection.

“To protect public safety, a qualified arboricultural inspector authorised its removal.

“A second tree at the site was also found to be dead and will be removed as part of the same operation. The area will be cleared of debris in the coming weeks as part of the planned works.

“It’s deeply disappointing to see such damage caused to our natural environment, and we thank residents for their understanding as we carry out these necessary safety measures.”
