Vital council services will carry on as normal in Tendring during the upcoming Christmas and New Year period.
Tendring District Council (TDC) will still deliver essential frontline services and handle emergencies during the Christmas period, but its offices will be closed from 4pm on Wednesday, 24 December until they re-open again fully from 8.45am on Friday, 2 January, 2026.
In an emergency which requires TDC’s assistance residents can contact the council’s out of hours provider on 01255 222022, available 24/7.
TDC Leader Mark Stephenson thanked staff at the authority who would be working or on-call over the festive break.
“We take pride in our services and understand that it is vital some of them are delivered every day of the year, even over Christmas,” Councillor Stephenson said.
“For that reason we keep most of our frontline services going during the festive period, meaning issues needing urgent attention will still be dealt with, while other matters will be picked up in the New Year.
"Taking this approach means many of our staff can enjoy a well-earned break over Christmas – and I give my sincere thanks to all those TDC staff who keep the council running during this time.
"I would like to wish all of our residents, local businesses and the Tendring community, on behalf of the council, a wonderful Christmas and an exciting New Year."
Waste and recycling collections will continue, with some changes around the bank holidays. TDC is working with its contractor Veolia Environmental Services to minimise disruption.
Meanwhile families are also reminded they can still book tickets for a mesmerising pantomime performance of Peter Pan, staged at TDC’s Princes Theatre, in Clacton, from 6 to 29 December.
Tickets for the show are available now from the Princes Theatre website at www.princestheatre.co.uk or by calling the Box Office at 01255 686633 (Option 1).
People can find further information on TDC’s Christmas services web page, which will be updated with full details of seasonal changes to services at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/pages/christmas.
