Seasonal blue bins return to Tendring’s seafront ahead of busy summer

Visitors to the Essex Sunshine Coast will once again see the return of seasonal blue litter bins along Tendring’s seafront from April, as Tendring District Council (TDC) steps up preparations for the summer season.

The bins – located in Brightlingsea, Jaywick Sands, Clacton-on-Sea, Holland-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze and Harwich – provide additional capacity at the district’s busiest coastal spots.

They will be emptied twice daily, seven days a week, as part of the council’s summer collection schedule which runs through to the end of September.

Councillor Adrian Smith, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Every year we increase both our litter bin capacity and the number of collections across our open spaces and beaches to keep pace with the higher visitor numbers the summer months bring.

“These extra blue bins are an important part of that work, helping everyone to enjoy our beautiful coastline at its best.

“Our teams – along with our waste contractor Veolia – work hard throughout the summer, carrying out early morning and evening cleans along the seafront.

“We’re supported too by fantastic volunteer groups who help keep our beaches tidy.

“Their combined efforts ensure Tendring remains welcoming, clean, and a place we can all take pride in.”

Councillor Smith called on residents and visitors to play their part in keeping our beaches and seafronts tidy.

“Most people treat our beaches with the respect they deserve, and we encourage everyone to continue doing so,” he said.

“If a bin is full, please use another one or take your rubbish home. Leaving waste beside a bin is also unacceptable as it can be quickly scattered by birds and animals, ending up on our beaches and in our seas.

“Working together, we can keep our coastline safe, clean and enjoyable for all.”

As part of Tendring District Council new waste, recycling and street cleaning contract, an additional 1,400 households will be receiving weekly food waste collections from early April.

Under the new three-year deal with Veolia, fortnightly rubbish collections will continue for households with wheelie bins, while those on the black sack service will still receive weekly collections.

Kerbside glass recycling will be added to the existing dry mixed recycling service from October, along with a wider range of plastic materials making it easier for residents to recycle more materials from home.
