Improvement works are set to begin later this month on Dovercourt seafront, providing a welcome boost to the town’s Blue Flag beach.
Tendring District Council (TDC) has appointed its contractor, WH Romac, to replace a series of ageing lamp columns along the promenade.
The upgrades will run from West End Lane through to the gardens in front of Dovercourt Lifestyles, refreshing one of the area’s most popular coastal routes.
A total of nine lamp columns will be replaced in full, including new columns, upgraded electrics and energy efficient LED lanterns. In addition, three further columns will receive new solar powered lanterns, supporting the council’s wider sustainability ambitions.
The scheme represents an investment of around £22,000, with work scheduled to begin on Monday, 26 January.
The project is expected to take three to four weeks, with minimal disruption to public access, subject to weather conditions.
Councillor Adrian Smith, TDC Cabinet Member responsible for coast protection and engineering, said: “These improvements mark another positive step in enhancing the seafront in Dovercourt.
“Replacing the ageing lamp columns will lift the look and feel of the promenade, make the area safer, and support our efforts to create a welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
“Our Blue Flag beach is something the whole district can be proud of, and investing in the surrounding infrastructure helps us maintain high standards while encouraging people to stay longer and enjoy the coast.
“This project reflects our ongoing commitment to improving public spaces as part of Our Vision, the council’s corporate plan.”
