Residents reminded to have their say on how major new Clacton neighbourhood will take shape

Residents, businesses and stakeholders are being reminded to have their say as part of a public consultation on proposals to guide the development of a major new neighbourhood on the edge of Clacton.

The site — west of Brook Retail Park and north of St John’s Road — is expected to deliver around 1,700 homes over the next 20 years.

The principle of development is already agreed in Tendring District Council’s (TDC) Local Plan, and this consultation focuses on how the site should be developed — including layout, design, infrastructure, green spaces and community facilities.

People are being invited to comment on the draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), which will guide future planning applications, before the six-week consultation closes on 17 November.

Councillor Andy Baker (pictured), TDC Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, said: “We’re inviting people to help shape not just a new neighbourhood, but a vibrant community — with high-quality homes, green spaces, and the infrastructure needed to support them.

“Hartley Gardens is one of the most significant developments in our Local Plan and will play a vital role in meeting Tendring’s housing needs over the next 20 years.

“We’ve set out a clear and ambitious vision, and now we want to hear your views to make sure it reflects the needs and aspirations of our communities.”

The first planning application for Hartley Gardens is expected in early 2026, with development anticipated to begin in 2029.

You can view paper copies of the SPD at Clacton Town Hall and Clacton Library in Station Road, West Clacton Library in Jaywick Lane and Holland Library in Frinton Road.
