Tendring District Council (TDC) is calling on rural businesses and community groups to seize the opportunity to gain funding, following the award of £197,761 from the Government’s Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF).
The funding pot, which was welcomed by council leaders at a Cabinet meeting on Friday (23 May), will support a new round of grants aimed at boosting local firms, enhancing community spaces, and improving quality of life across rural Tendring.
The money will continue to fund two successful schemes, one for rural businesses and another for not-for-profit organisations.
The business grants scheme offers between £5,000 and £20,000 for capital projects such as purchasing new machinery, adopting new technologies, or diversifying services. Applicants must provide 25 percent match funding.
Meanwhile, the community grants scheme provides between £1,000 and £20,000 for capital improvements to local facilities and programmes, with no match funding required.
Since its launch in 2023, the REPF has already made a significant impact in Tendring.
A total of £610,000 has been invested in 28 rural businesses and 23 community infrastructure projects.
These grants have helped businesses expand, improve efficiency, and embrace innovation—funding everything from 3D printers and machine tools controlled by computer to new websites and even a revamped pub kitchen, enabling it to sell homemade food.
Community groups have used the funding to restore facilities, improve accessibility, and support inclusive activities, including equipment for children with special educational needs and upgrades to local swimming pools.
Councillor Ivan Henderson (pictured above), TDC Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “This funding is a real opportunity to empower our rural communities and businesses to thrive.
“Whether it’s a local business investing in innovation or a community group upgrading a much-loved facility, these grants are about creating lasting impact.
“We’re inviting applications from businesses in the eligible area to help meet real local needs and improve quality of life for residents.”
All projects must be completed by 31 March, 2026. For more information on eligibility and how to apply, visit the Tendring District Council website at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/content/repf.
