The newly elected Chairman of Tendring District Council (TDC), Councillor Bill Davidson, has announced three local charities he will support during his year in office.
At a formal chaining ceremony held at Clacton Town Hall on Tuesday (3 June), Councillor Davidson - who represents Dovercourt Vines and Parkeston - shared his commitment to raising funds for Candles, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), and HomeStart.
“I’m honoured to support these incredible causes,” said Councillor Davidson.
“Candles provides vital support for families of children with Down’s Syndrome, CRY works to prevent sudden cardiac deaths in young people, and HomeStart helps children and young people overcome challenges linked to education, poverty, and crime prevention.”
He encouraged residents to get involved in fundraising events throughout the year, adding, “Your support will make a real difference.”
Reflecting on his first few weeks in office, Councillor Davidson described attending His Majesty the King’s garden party at Buckingham Palace as a highlight.
“It was a truly memorable day, made even more special by sharing it with my wife,” he said.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve and look forward to representing our district with pride.”
Councillor Davidson, who previously served as Vice-Chairman and is also Chairman of Ramsey and Parkeston Parish Council, succeeds outgoing Chairman Cllr Dan Casey, to whom he extended his heartfelt thanks.
Also in attendance was Walton ward councillor Ann Oxley, who will serve as Vice-Chairman for the coming year, and the Rev David Lower.
The Chairman of TDC plays a key civic role, presiding over council meetings and representing the district at official events.
