Significant step made towards new garden community for Essex residents.

A major milestone has been reached in delivering the A1331 link road for residents living in and around Colchester.

The completion of a new roundabout on the A133 supports the start of works on the Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community, providing seamless access into the upcoming development for residents.

Phase one of the A1331 link road is one of the first pieces of highways infrastructure to be created for the garden community and is due to be delivered next year.

Phase one is being carried out by Octavius Infrastructure and will result in over a mile of link road and two further roundabouts, future proofing access into the new development.

Phase two will see the A1331 connect to a new junction on the A120.

Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport at Essex County Council, said: “This is a very important step in the delivery of the new link road and, ultimately, the new garden community.

“Together with our partners at Colchester City Council and Tendring District Council, we have been clear the new garden community must be supported by the right transport infrastructure for residents as the developments grows.

“We appreciate residents’ patience while works have been underway. The A133 is such an important route into Colchester, which the team have worked hard to improve quickly with as minimal disruption as possible.

“Traffic management will now be significantly reduced on the A133 as the Octavius team works away from the A133. They will be completing the first phase of the link road as well as new walking and cycling infrastructure, and planting over 43,000 trees and bushes as part of our landscaping proposals.”
